Sociology
Sociology is the scientific study of human social systems, institutions and interactions from family structures to communities, to global political and economic relationships between nations. Students who take sociology courses can expect to study topics such as social classes, racial discrimination, gender roles, crime, school systems and other social issues that are relevant to the study of people and social structures. Although few occupations include "sociologist" in their title at the bachelor's level, the sociological perspective is excellent preparation for a wide variety of occupations. A major in sociology can open doors to a diverse variety of careers in business, education, the justice system, journalism, public relations, community development, social service, among others.
