Math Placement at Highline

Find the Best Math Class for You!Choosing the right math class is important as you start your college journey. Here are the various ways to receive placement in math. 

  1. Option 1

    I want to get placed fast!

    Informed Math Placement is an easy, short survey you can take right away to help place you into the right math class. It only takes about 20 minutes. This is not a test. Informed Math Placement is a tool that will ask you questions about math. 

    Get Placed in Math

    This survey can place you into the following math classes:

    MATH 81, MATH 91, MATH 98, MATH& 107, MATH 111, MATH& 146, MATHP 107, MATHP 111, MATHP 146, or MATHP 141 (Learn about these Math Courses.)

  2. Option 2

    I have a diploma or transcript:

    • GED®
    • U.S. High School Transcript
    • U.S. College Transcript
    • International Transcript

    Submit a copy of your GED® or Transcript to Entry Advising so that you get credit in our system for your achievement.

  3. Option 3

    I have a U.S. national test score:

    • IB/AB Test
    • SAT/ACT Test
    • Smarter Balance Test

    Submit a copy of your test score to Entry Advising so that you get credit in our system for your achievement.

  4. Option 4

    I need to take the WAMAP Placement Test

    If Entry Advising recommends WAMAP placement test, we suggest preparing for these tests. Learn how to prepare for the WAMAP and utilize their practice tests. Contact Entry Advising to take this placement test.

 

Math Placement Test Preparation

Prepare for WAMAP Math Placement Test

We recommend preparing for this test by accessing the practice tests and attending a Brush-up Workshop.

We strongly encourage you to prepare before you take a test to ensure that you receive the accurate course placement. You do not want to waste time and money in a course you do not need, or get into a course that is too difficult for you. We recommend taking this test once and using the information to go deeper into the content areas that need further review.

For the math placement test, you can choose to start with either Test 1 or Test 2. Some students may be eligible to begin with Test 3.  We suggest starting with the highest-level test that includes content you are already familiar with. Follow the directions below to begin practicing.

  1. Open WAMAP in Chrome browser.
  2. Login using your Canvas account username and password
  3. If you have not taken a WAMAP test before, register as a new student.
    • Use your Canvas account username and password
    • Enter the following:
      • Course ID: 28786 Enrollment Key: 2022

  • Substituting values into algebraic expressions
  • Basic Operations with Polynomials
  • Solving linear equations in one variable

Algebra Core

  • Evaluating Functions
  • Linear Equation in two variables/Linear Functions
  • Linear inequalities and interval notation
  • Quadratic equations and functions
  • Solve systems of equations
  • Operations with polynomials
  • Rules of Exponents 

Algebra STEM

  • Factoring
  • Completing the square
  • Simplifying rational expressions
  • Simplifying expressions with radicals/fractional exponents
  • Simplifying logarithmic expressions using Laws of Logarithms
  • Solving quadratic equations
  • Solving rational equations
  • Solving radical equations
  • Solving exponential equations
  • Solving logarithmic equations
  • Properties of quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic
    functions (evaluating, domain,...)
  • Algebra of functions
  • Composition of functions
  • Inverse functions

Trigonometry

  • Evaluating trigonometric expressions
  • Right triangle trigonometry
  • Properties of trigonometric functions (domain, amplitude, period,…) and their inverses
  • Simplifying trigonometric expressions using identities
  • Solving trigonometric equations
