Transferring-in Credits From an International Institution

International students wanting to use courses taken at schools in countries outside of the United States towards graduating from Highline must have their international transcripts evaluated.

  • Students should only transfer international coursework to Highline if fulfilling general credits toward a degree or certificate at Highline.Read more information about general versus direct equivalency.
  • Students must be enrolled for the current or upcoming quarter to have their transcript evaluated by Highline.
  • New students can provide National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) evaluated transcripts to academic advisors during their enrollment process for the purpose of first-quarter course selection and placement. The costs of agency services are the responsibility of the student.

Eligibility Conditions for International College Transfer-In Courses

  • Highline will accept transfer classes with a minimum grade of D or 1.0 in each class. The cumulative combined GPA for all accepted classes must be 2.0 or better.
  • The school you attended must be recognized by the host country’s Ministry of Education.
    • If our staff has difficulty verifying your school’s recognition status, we will deny the transfer of credits.
  • The courses must fulfill Highline graduation requirements.

The maximum number of credits we can transfer into Highline is about 75% of the credits required towards a program (for example, 67 credits maximum for an associate degree). We want to ensure we only bring in the classes you can use.

How to Request Transcript Evaluation

After you have been admitted and enrolled as a Highline student, there are two steps for requesting a transcript evaluation. Processing time begins when all documents (transcripts and the request form) have been received. Once your file is complete, please allow 10 weeks for processing.

Step One

  • Submit your official course-by-course report completed by any agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to Highline College. Local agencies include WES, and Josef Silny & Associates. The costs of agency services are the responsibility of the student. Only transcripts for students enrolled for the current or upcoming quarter will be evaluated by Highline. New students can provide NACES-evaluated transcripts to academic advisors during their enrollment process for the purpose of first quarter course selection and placement.

Step Two

Records of Transfer-in Credit

After evaluation, transfer-in credits will not appear on your official Highline transcript. Transfer-in credits do not affect your Highline College GPA and do not change your total Highline credits earned. The only way for a student to view what has been transferred in for them is by using Academic Advising Report (AAR)
