Vaccination Policy
Respiratory care practitioners are responsible for caring for individuals who are immunocompromised as well as those who carry communicable diseases. The Respiratory Care program and its clinical affiliates require that all program participants be vaccinated (or show proof of immunity) to a variety of pathogens. Additionally (as was the case during the COVID pandemic), new vaccines may become available that will become required, or vaccination requirements may change as required by our clinical affiliates. Some examples of vaccinations include MMR, Tdap, COVID, Hepatitis B and Varicella. Students are also required to receive an annual Influenza (flu) shot and periodic TB testing. These requirements are set forth by our clinical affiliates and there is no possibility for exceptions to this requirement. These requirements are in place to protect both patients in clinical facilities and students participating in clinical activities.
Random Selection Process
If there are more applicants than openings in the program, Random Selection will be done using the BAS Respiratory Care rubric.
Deadlines
Students can take prerequisites up through summer quarter for the Fall quarter class. Applications will be accepted until class is filled. Once the class is full, eligible students will be placed on the waitlist. Spots often do become available at the start of the quarter.
