Crisostomo Almajose
My name is Cris Almajose, I am going on my 6th year as a full-time faculty member of Highline College’s Respiratory Care program. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health from the University of Washington. My time as a UW student was often spent in the Health Science Building labs and on the football fields as a member of the Husky Marching band. My life journey also led me to pursue a medical degree from the Philippines. This allowed me to experience being a visiting medical student here at the UW,. honing my clinical skills by training in both Family Practice and Radiology. The road I’ve traveled has allowed me to bring a unique angle to my professorship here at Highline. My RT experience includes 2 years in Critical care at Harborview Medical Center and 13 years of experience at CHI’s Regional hospital, a specialty center for complicated respiratory patients. Additionally I served as a supervisor in the management of cases requiring specialty respiratory care.

Fred Goglia
My name is Fred Goglia, I am the Program Director for the Respiratory Care Program at Highline college. I graduated from the University of Missouri in 1997 and immediately moved to the Pacific Northwest. A funny part of this story is that when I moved here, my spouse and I lived in a backpacking tent with our dog (in April). I really learned how to deal with the rain while living outdoors. The tricky part was getting to my job interviews without mud on my dress shoes. I began my career at Harborview Medical Center where I continue to work. I started teaching in 2002 and went back to school in 2007 to earn my Master's in Education from the University of Washington. I have had many teaching, bedside, and leadership roles over the years. I found my way to Highline College in 2022 and have loved every minute of it. I value our diverse faculty team and enjoy being a part of our amazing faculty in the RC program. My personal interests include outdoor interests such as kayaking, rafting, hiking and skiing, as well as penchant for making things, especially good food.

Program Director
Kayoko Kado
My name is Kayoko Kado, and I’m from Tokyo, Japan. My first job was as a flight attendant for All Nippon Airways, where I flew both domestic and international routes. Later, I earned a master’s degree and became a Japanese teacher. After moving to Seattle, I graduated from Highline College in Respiratory Care in 2007. I worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Regional Hospital and as a polysomnography tech at Tacoma General Hospital. I have been teaching at Highline since 2013, and I truly love teaching in the Respiratory Care program. As someone who speaks English as a second language and started from ESL, I deeply understand how challenging it is to learn medical subjects in English. I always strive to make my classes as clear and accessible as possible for every student. In my free time, I play classical guitar. I currently belong to the Seattle Guitar Orchestra and a Hawaiian slack key guitar group. I also enjoy visiting national parks — so far, I’ve visited 16 in the U.S.

Ann Korn
I am Dr. Ann Korn, and I am the Director of Clinical Education for the Respiratory Care program at Highline College. I graduated many years ago from Highline’s Respiratory program. I worked for 30 years at Seattle Children’s Hospital. I was an educator, preceptor and on the ground transport team. My secret goal was to earn a bachelor’s degree in history, and I graduated from Antioch University Seattle in 2004. I decided I just wasn’t done with school, so I kept going, and going. I earned my master’s degree, and a doctorate in clinical research psychology- then I was really done! I was a long-time clinical instructor for Highline before coming here full time in 2017. It’s been a great experience. I stay for many reasons, but the two most important are the wonderful people I work with and students- I have learned so much from them. I am a Lego maniac- though I prefer Lego Master and I also enjoy photography, reading and being with my family and my dog Bandit.

Pawlos Okubagzi
My name is Pawlos Okubagzi. I come from a business and economics education background but developed a passion for patient care, inspiring me to transition into healthcare. In 2004, I completed the Respiratory Care program at Highline College and have worked full-time at Harborview Medical Center as an RRT since. Along the way, I discovered a passion for teaching and earned a master’s degree in respiratory therapy, specializing in therapeutics and education. In 2016, I joined Highline College’s Respiratory Care program as faculty, balancing full-time teaching with continued per diem clinical practice at Harborview. I have received awards recognizing my dedication to academic excellence, patient care, continuous learning, and patient safety. I am continually refining my teaching style to embrace collaborative learning enriched by evidence-based and community clinical practices. I incorporate motivation and coaching, guided by good judgment, throughout the learning process. Outside work, I enjoy listening to music and riding my bike.
